Another new tax for firearms owners. Illinois Democrats have introduced a new law that would require you to buy government-approved insurance just to apply for, or renew, a FOID Card.
HB43 creates a JB Pritzker appointed task force to study whether or not Pritzker should mandate that law abiding Illinois firearms owners have insurance as a condition of applying for a FOID Card.
The bill is sponsored by Democrats Rep. Bob Morgan, Laura Faver Dias and Yolonda Morris.
Of course, this ‘study committee’ will say yes, which is exactly what Democrats are looking for.

This bill has nothing to do with public safety, it’s about increased paperwork, and of course, the chance to generate more revenue for the state of Illinois through fees from insurance, much of which would be sent to the state of Illinois.
Criminals won’t buy insurance.
Criminals don’t apply for FOIDs.
Criminals won’t follow any of this.
Illinois current gun legislative bill
Illinois is currently considering several gun legislative bills aimed at improving gun safety and regulation. Here are some of the key developments:

- SB 0008: Imposes civil penalties for failing to secure firearms properly and requires reporting lost or stolen firearms within 48 hours. 1

- SB 8: Expands mandatory firearm storage requirements and increases penalties for law-abiding gun owners. 1

🚨🚨OK folks, HB-3320 is not going to be heard yesterday ! Instead, they are hearing HB-4471, which is a ban on the sale of all Glock handguns in Illinois!
Rep. Davidsmeyer is making the obvious point: Glock switches are already illegal…criminals simply don’t care…and they don’t follow the law. Banning the sale of Glocks will do nothing to stop crime.

Update on Illinois Hunting Tax and ammo registration law.
The new five cent per round tax and Ammo Registration Act (HB4414) is making its way through Springfield, and most Illinois Democrats are fully behind the legislation. 
The legislation is being proposed by Downers Grove IL State Rep Anne Stava-Murray (D) and is supported by many Democrats. It’s uncertain whether Governor Pritzker supports this legislation or not, though in the past, he has strongly supported and has actively advanced gun control legislation in Illinois.
Since taking office in 2019, Pritzker has signed numerous bills imposing restrictions on firearms, consistently describing them as “common sense” …. So, there’s a likelihood he would probably sign this legislation into law. 
Details of the new law:
It is designed to register every round of ammo you own in Illinois This would allow the state to possibly confiscate your ammunition in the future. 
Effective January 1, 2027 all handgun ammo sold or made in Illinois to be serialized
Requires all rifle ammo that could be fired in an SBR/SBS to be serialized
Requires the State Police to track the sale of every round of ammo sold
Allows a tax $.05 for “every round” of ammo sold
And will put anyone who possesses unserialized ammo in a ‘public place’ in prison.
More importantly, you need to let your state senator and state rep know that you oppose this legislation
