RTA and CTA customers will not see a fare increase because you are now paying for Chicago Mass Transit. Fare increases have been cancelled.

The new Democrat Illinois transit bill that includes a 45 cent toll increase for non-transit riders along with increased sales taxes, will fund the CTA and RTA.
That’s right, thanks to Illinois Democrats, those who do not use mass transit will cover the cost of Chicago Mass transit riders.
The previously announced fare increase to fund the budget shortfall has been canceled, because you now are covering the costs.
-There will now be a one-year freeze on fare increases, taking effect in June 2026.
One-year freeze: The Democrat bill prohibits fare increases for the first year after it goes into effect on June 1, 2026.
The RTA has stated it is “walking back” its request for a fare hike for 2026, citing the Democrat legislation and legislative pressure.
Future fare increases will most likely be covered by the 4% annual tollway increases that will take effect annually
Chicago rides free – and you get to pay for it.
