Possible taxes:
-$1.50 per package delivery tax (Amazon tax). Doordash, UPS, grocery deliveries, etc,
-Illinois Exit Tax (on real estate- sell your home, pay a tax to leave Illinois)
Analysis: Democrats in Springfield will consider tax increases this month during the veto session to bail out Chicago. Brandon Johnson, JB Pritzker and Chicago Democrats are scheming to come up with ways all of Illinois can be taxed to bail out Chicago’s mass transit system which anticipates a deficit of $202 Million in 2026 year and over $700 million in 2027.
A realistic solution: Raise fares to bail out the RTA, CTA and Chicago mass transit, and don’t make the rest of Illinois pay for your problems!
New tax on services! Illinois Democrat ‘service’ tax to bail out Chicago is back.
The new service tax had been floated in the spring is expected to come up for a potential vote in Springfield next week when Democrats reconvene for the October veto session.
Over eighty everyday services like parking, haircuts, dry cleaning, oil changes, handyman services, car repairs, lawncare would be subject to the new service tax.
These new taxes would be put in place in the entire state of Illinois to bail out Chicago mass transit.
If you live in Rockford, DeKalb, Carbondale, LaSalle, Decatur, Freeport, Dixon, Urbana, Moline, etc… you would be forced to pay the tax……to benefit Chicago!
Even very costly projects like home repairs could be taxed under the proposal that has been put forward, potentially adding hundreds or thousands of dollars in costs for residents.
“We fully expect the service tax conversation to come back during Veto Session this fall,” said Deputy House Republican Minority Leader Norine Hammond. “This is a clear sign that Illinois families and small businesses are going to be asked to do more to fill the void for Democrats’ failed financial stewardship of our government. A service tax will drive up the cost of living even more for Illinois families.”
