Justice Department Warns Sheltered Workshops May Violate ADA

Segregating people with disabilities in employment and other day programs may violate their rights under the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Biden administration says.

In a 13-page document released this week, the U.S. Department of Justice is outlining how the ADA’s so-called “integration mandate” applies to many daytime activities for people with disabilities.

Much as the law requires that housing and other supports be provided in community-based settings when appropriate, the agency is clarifying that this same expectation applies to other services.

“A public entity may violate the ADA’s integration mandate when it plans, administers, operates, funds or implements any services — including employment or day services — in a way that unjustifiably segregates individuals with disabilities,” the guidance states.

The Justice Department notes that many people with disabilities spend the majority of their time receiving services in segregated settings like sheltered workshops and facility-based day programs. People currently served in such settings and those at risk of ending up in segregated services should be provided accurate information about integrated options, according to the guidance.

“Simply put, people with disabilities are entitled to work alongside their friends, peers and neighbors without disabilities,” said Kristen Clarke, assistant attorney general for civil rights at the Justice Department. “Employment is fundamental to contributing to and being fully included in society. This guidance makes clear that the ADA requires that people with disabilities have access to the integrated services they need to contribute, grow and advance in typical workplaces throughout the country.”

Still, the guidance also says that people with disabilities do not have to participate in integrated employment or day services.

“Individuals with disabilities may decline to accept a service in the most integrated setting appropriate for them,” the document indicates. “State and local governments are not required to provide community-based services to individuals who oppose receiving those services. On the other hand, state and local governments have no obligation under the ADA to provide services in segregated settings.”

The Justice Department issued similar guidance in 2016 under the Obama administration, but it was rescinded by the Trump administration. Disability advocates have been pressing for the guidance to be reissued.

“Too often, providers claim that activities like segregated day programs or sheltered workshops are ‘community activities’ that meet the goals of integration, but this clarifies that they do not,” said Zoe Gross, director of advocacy at the Autistic Self Advocacy Network. “The guidance specifies that people should have as much integrated employment as they want and are able to participate in, but also addresses non-employment day services that people who do not work, or do not work full time, may use.”

Who is Co-Ordinating The Radical Protesters Across The World ?

How do tens of thousands of angry vile protestors calling for the destruction of Israel just appear almost spontaneously in major cities across the world?

Do they really care about this conflict? Most can’t even spell Israel and none have ever been there.

And why aren’t they out protesting other perceived oppressions that actually are far more pernicious? Russia invading Ukraine and destroying apartment houses? China placing over 1 million ethnic Muslims in concentration camps? Iran shooting it’s own citizens seeking freedom? The Taliban turning Afghanistan back into a Sharia state? Syria gassing its own people?

The protestors selective outrage is not happenstance. Nor is their incredibly quick mobilization. This is all part of the Hamas plan, coordinated with Iran, that has been planned for over two years. It included a massive international PR campaign.

Iran saw the radical movements in America, from BLM to Defund the Police, as useful idiots to aid their cause. They bought shelf space at all their protests and negotiated intersectional support. We need to follow the money here and we will find that these protestors are all bought and paid for by the most corrupt and destructive financial sources on the planet.

History of Black Tuesday—-October 29, 1929

HISTORY OF BLACK TUESDAY

A crowd of investors gather outside the New York Stock Exchange on “Black Tuesday” – October 29, when the stock market plummeted and the U.S. plunged into the Great Depression.

On October 29, 1929, the United States stock market crashed in an event known as Black Tuesday. This began a chain of events that led to the Great Depression, a 10-year economic slump that affected all industrialized countries in the world.

The 1920s had been a time of wealth and excess in the United States of America, and stock prices had risen to unprecedented levels. This encouraged many people to speculate that the market would continue to rise. Investors borrowed money to buy more stocks.

As real estate values declined during the late 1920s, the stock market also weakened. When stock prices started to slide on October 29, people rushed to sell their stock and get out of the market, which drove prices down even further. This cycle led to more and more “panic selling,” until the stock market fell to its lowest point in history.

The Man Who Discovered America :

THE MAN WHO ‘DISCOVERED’ AMERICA: When Christopher Columbus was trying to find funding for his legendary voyages, many around him believed he came from the Italian aristocracy. This view was passed into history through a biography written after the explorer’s death by his son, which describes him as a descendant of a Count Colombo of the castle of Cucaro in Montferra. Colombo, in turn, was said to be descended from the legendary Roman general Colonius, and two of his first cousins were supposedly direct descendants of an emperor of Constantinople. An illustrious background indeed. But it was nothing more than illustrious fantasy, for Columbus was actually the son of Domenico Colombo, a humble weaver who had opened a wine shop when Christopher was a young man and who then made his living by selling cheese. Columbus himself had created the myth of his noble background because from early on he felt that destiny had singled him out for great things and that he had a kind of royalty in his blood. Accordingly, he acted as if he were indeed descended from noble stock.

After an uneventful career as a merchant on a commercial vessel, Columbus, originally from Genoa, settled in Lisbon. Using the fabricated story of his noble background, he married into an established Lisbon family that had excellent connections with Portuguese royalty. Through his in-laws, Columbus finagled a meeting with the king of Portugal, Joel II, whom he petitioned to finance a westward voyage aimed at discovering a shorter route to Asia. In return for announcing that any discoveries he achieved would be made in the king’s name, Columbus wanted a series of rights: the title Grand Admiral of the Ocean Sea, the office of Viceroy over any lands he found, and 10% of the future commerce with such lands. All of these were to be hereditary and for all time. Columbus made these demands. Even though he had previously been a mere merchant, he knew almost nothing about navigation, he could not work a quadrant, and he had never led a group of men. In short, he had absolutely no qualifications for the journey he proposed. Furthermore, his petition included no details as to how he would accomplish his plans, just vague promises.

When Columbus finished his pitch, Joel II smiled. He politely declined the offer but left the door open for the future. Here, Columbus must have noticed something he would never forget. Even as the king turned down the sailor’s demands, he treated them as legitimate. He neither laughed at Columbus nor questioned his background and credentials. In fact, the king was impressed by the boldness of Columbus’s requests and clearly felt comfortable in the company of a man who acted so confidently. The meeting must have convinced Columbus that his instincts were correct. By asking for the Moon, he had instantly raised his own status, for the king assumed that unless a man who set such a high price on himself were mad, which Columbus did not appear to be, he must somehow be worth it.

A few years later, Columbus moved to Spain. Using his Portuguese connections, he moved in elevated circles at the Spanish court, receiving subsidies from illustrious financiers and sharing tables with dukes and princes. To all these men, he repeated his request for financing for a voyage to the west and also for the rights he had demanded from Joel II. Some, such as the powerful Duke of Medina, wanted to help but could not since they lacked the power to grant him the titles and rights he wanted. But Columbus would not back down. He soon realized that only one person could meet his demands: Queen Isabella. In 1487, he finally managed a meeting with the queen, and although he could not convince her to finance the voyage, he completely charmed her and became a frequent guest in the palace.

In 1492, the Spanish finally expelled the Moorish invaders who centuries earlier had seized parts of the country. With the wartime burden on her treasury lifted, Isabella felt she could finally respond to the demands of her explorer friend, and she decided to pay for three ships, equipment, the salaries of the crew, and a modest stipend for Columbus. More important, she had a contract drawn up that granted Columbus the titles and rights on which she had insisted. The only one she denied, and only in the contract’s fine print, was the 10% of all revenues from any lands discovered. An absurd demand since he wanted no time limit on it. Had the clause been left in, it would eventually have made Columbus and his heirs the wealthiest family on the planet. Columbus never read the fine print. Satisfied that his demands had been met, Columbus set sail that same year in search of the passage to Asia. Before he left, he was careful to hire the best navigator he could find to help get him there. The mission failed to find such a passage.

Yet when Columbus petitioned the queen to finance an even more ambitious voyage the following year, she agreed. By then, she had come to see Columbus as destined for great things. Interpretation: Columbus had an amazing power to charm the nobility, and it all came from the way he carried himself. He projected a sense of confidence that was completely out of proportion to his means. Nor was his confidence the aggressive, ugly self-promotion of an upstart. It was a quiet and calm self-assurance. In fact, it was the same confidence usually shown by the nobility themselves. The powerful in the old-style aristocracies felt no need to prove or assert themselves. Being noble, they knew they always deserved more and asked for it. With Columbus, then, they felt an instant affinity for he carried himself just the way they did – elevated above the crowd, destined for greatness. Understand it is within your power to set your own price. How you carry yourself reflects what you think of yourself. If you ask for little, shuffle your feet and lower your head, people will assume this reflects your character. But this behavior is not you. It is only how you have chosen to present yourself to other people. You can just as easily present the Columbus front: buoyancy, confidence, and the feeling that you were born to wear a crown, Robert Greene writes in his spectacular book, ‘The 48 Laws of Power’. I recommend it.

Venezuelan Gangs Coming To Chicago

It was only a matter of time….

Among our “asylum seekers” exist members of a Venezuelan prison gang. A characteristic of the gang is “extreme brutality.”

Venezuela’s worst gangsters have crossed into the US illegally and are unleashing chaos in Dallas, Chicago and Miami – with fearful residents saying they’ve had tires slashed, windows shot out in retribution for reporting them to cops

Henchmen for Venezuela’s dictator and many of the South American country’s worst criminals have crossed over the US border and are now causing chaos in major American cities, including Dallas, Miami and Chicago, multiple sources tell the DailyMail.com.

In Dallas, the Venezuelan neighborhood known as ‘Villa Dallas’ has descended into mayhem. For months, once peaceful apartment complexes have been the scene of illegal street races, beatings, shootings and extortion attempts.

‘Don’t kill him,’ says a by stander.

The person who posted the video to Instagramidentified local gangsters who he says are behind the bedlam.

‘The most popular nicknames are Aron, El Pibe and Chito– three alleged mini criminal gang leaders who face each other to keep control of the area,’ @elperijanero2020 claims.

But there’s nothing ‘mini’ about these criminals, explained immigration attorney Rolando Vazquez.

‘A lot of these people are criminals from the (Nicholas) Maduro regime,’ the Miami lawyer stated.

‘Some are ex-security forces. They are professional criminals or part of criminal organizations.’

At least 334,914 Venezuelan citizens have crossed into the US in fiscal year 2023, according to US Customs and Border Protection statistics.

In the month of September alone, 72,352 Venezuelans were encountered at US international crossings– making citizens from the South American country the largest nationality arrested for illegally entering the US. For the first time ever, Mexicans citizens were replaced as the top nationality along the border.

At least 334,914 Venezuelan citizens have crossed into the US in fiscal year 2023, according to US Customs and Border Protection statistics. The previous year, 189,520 Venezuelans crossed into the US, compared to 50,499 in 2021

Venezuelan migrants across the country are being extorted by criminal Venezuelan migrants, Vazquez elaborated.

Business owners perceived as having deep pockets are often followed home and threatened with violence against their families if they don’t pay up.

‘They want to do the same thing here that they used to do in Venezuela,’ he said.

Orlando José aka ‘Chucky’ Dominguez Mora was convicted of extortion in Miami in September 2022, according to Florida court records.

A victim claimed she was one of several business owners in Doral, the Venezuelan community in South Florida, who paid Chucky after receiving threats from him, reported ABC Noticias.

Victims were selected at high-end restaurants and nightclubs, where Chucky would pick a family and follow them to their homes to gather information that could be later used to blackmail them.

Some South American thugs are members of so called ‘Collectivos’ or Venezuelan state-run militia, Vazquez says. The government-backed gangs run Venezuelan towns, demanding bribes, taking personal items from homes simply because they want to, and killing or attacking citizens at the request of Maduro, who was indicted by the US government in 2020 for narco-terrorism and drug-trafficking charges.

‘The same people so many migrants left Venezuela to escape from are now here,’ Vazquez added.

‘They’re the ones who attacked people for their political beliefs, and they are now in the US. They’re doing Maduro’s dirty work, and it’s not just Dallas. It’s Miami; it’s Chicago.’

Villa Dallas residents who report criminals to authorities have their car tires slashed and windows broken, multiple residents told DailyMail.com.

‘Every Friday, Saturday and Sunday, the situation is out of control,’ said a renter at the Oaks at North Dallas who didn’t want to be identified.

‘These men hang around the complex drinking and doing drugs. Next thing you know, it’s bullets flying and people fighting. When I first arrived, it was calm, but things have changed in the last few months.’

In July, the Dallas Police designated The Oaks as a habitual crime property and confirmed officers have increased their presence there.

‘Our Neighborhood Police Officers are setting up a crime watch meeting to speak with tenants and address the crime in the area,’ the department said in a statement.

Law-abiding migrants who have the money to move out have already left, and those who don’t try to keep their heads down and hope they don’t get hit by a stray bullet or sucked into the violence.

‘I work long hours, so I’m hardly ever here, but I’m still afraid for my son,’ another resident added. ‘They like to races here, in the parking lot of the apartment complex. You hear them going around and around and you worry someone might get run over.’ Members of the notorious Tren de Aragua Venezuelan mob have also infiltrated the US. The leader of the gang– headquartered inside Tocorón prison and known for trafficking drugs and women– recently had broke out of the prison and is currently on the run.

Interpol issued a red alert for mob boss Héctor “El Niño” Guerrero and warned he could be headed to the US, according to multiple South American media organizations.

‘If Maduro wants something done in the US, he can use the escaped convicts. They take orders from inside the US,’ Vazquez said.

Despite the international manhunt for Guerrero, the fugitive could still make it past border security since he would likely be smuggled into the country, Mexican cartel expert Robert Almonte told the DailyMail.com.

‘The Mexican cartels, they know who’s crossing the border; they’re making money off it,’ he stated.

‘These are thugs, these are criminals. Most are not presenting paperwork to show Border Patrol.’

Once they’re smuggled in, there’s no way to track where the end up in the United States.

At least two of gang members are able to get into the country legally by presenting fake documents at the border and asking for asylum.

Two members of Tren de Aragua were able to get legitimate Venezuelan passports with fake names before making the journey to the US and pass themselves off as refugees, reported The American.

‘No one’s doing anything about it. ICE could easily deport them for being here illegally or having guns. They need to get deported but nothing is being done. They just keep coming in.’

Both Immigration and Customs Enforcement or ICE and the Department of Homeland Security declined to participate in this story.

Federal immigration officials recently started deporting Venezuelans who showed up at the border and did not qualify for asylum back to their homeland, the Chief of the US Border Patrol Jason Owens posted to social media Thursday.

The flights were previously not possible, as the US and Venezuela do not have diplomatic relations, however, the two governments recently reached an agreement to allow Venezuelan migrants to be repatriated to their homeland.

The first ICE flight to Venezuela left out of Harlingen, Texas Thursday and more are planned.

The number of Venezuelans crossing the border has fallen more than half since the Biden Administration announced migrants who didn’t have a legal basis to be in the United States would be returned to their country of origin, according to the Washington Post

Imagine the depravity these sadists will inflict when placed in Johnsonvilles.

Happy Halloween, “y’all.”

Isn’t that lovely?

A new gang (competition for existing gangs) that specialize in murder, drug trafficking, kidnapping, arms (weapons) trafficking, human trafficking and extortion.

Criminal Migrant with gang tattoo released by Chicago Police to run the streets of Chicago …

Among the “asylum seekers” exist members of a Venezuelan prison gang name “Tren De Aragua”. A characteristic of the gang is “extreme brutality, Drug trafficking, Kidnapping, Arms Trafficking, Human Trafficking and Extortion. They are recognized by the following tattoos shown in the photo.

We didn’t have enough problems in Chicago so we had to import them.

Oh, also, remember that Chicago opted to dismantle and abolish their gang database.

So don’t worry, they’ll surely be kept track of…oh wait

Masonry In A Nutshell

You may have heard of “the world’s oldest profession.” But the world’s oldest organized profession was stone masonry. Ancient civilizations realized you had better know what you are doing if you are going to build with stone. This gave rise to ancient stone masons’ guilds, which required mandatory education, training, and rankings. Stone masons became known for their high levels of morality and ethics in building.

A novice was entered into the craft as an apprentice. Although only an apprentice, he was still entered into, or associated with, the craft. After years of training, he could be passed to the level of a fellow of the craft, or Fellowcraft. With more years, he could become a Master Mason.

Over the centuries, men joined the craft, not necessarily to be operative stone masons, but for the education in ethics, morality, and the arts and sciences. In time, more men joined for this academic and moral education and social interaction than to be actual operative stone masons. By the late 1600’s, most were not operative masons, but what were call Speculative or Accepted Masons.

In the year 1717, Masons joined together to form the Grand Lodge of England in London. This is considered the birth of Modern Freemasonry as we know it today, although our history and traditions go back much farther.

Fast forward to 1776, and the questions on American’s lips were, “Who is going to be our new king? What will be our system of royalty and nobility? What will be our class structure? What will be our official religion? After all, every country has these things (and many still do, even today).

Masons like Benjamin Franklin, John Hancock, Paul Revere, and George Washington said to the other Founding Fathers, “Many members of royalty and nobility around the world are Masons. But in our lodges, we all meet on the level, as equals. What if we have a country without royalty or nobility, where all are equal under the law? And what if we elect our leaders, as we do in our lodges, for specific times, then they return to the ranks? We Masons require a belief in God, but each man’s religious opinions are his own. What if this new country had no official religion? Masons have long advocated education for everyone. What if we have free public education?”

These things were radical ideas at the time. There had never been a country like that in the history of the world. At a time when everyone recognized and accepted class, caste, and social divisions, Masonry taught Equality (represented by the level). While many taught that one should be satisfied with his lot in life, Masonry encouraged self-improvement.

While some institutions promote differences between men, Masonry promoted Brotherly Love, Relief (charity) and Truth (honest and moral behavior towards all, represented by the square). We advocate harmony in society. We stand for the brotherhood of man under the fatherhood of God.

Masonic tools and ideals permeate our society: A “square” deal. Are you on the “level?” The police gave him the “third degree.” Our modern educational system is based upon the Masonic education system of ancient times. The Three Degrees of Masonry are Entered Apprentice (Associate of the craft), Fellow (Bachelor) of the Craft, and Master Mason. Masons use the geometric term, raised by “degrees.” What are the three college degrees? Associate, Bachelor, and Master’s Degree. Did you ever wonder why they call it a college “degree”? From Masonry! And what do they call that flat square hat you wear when you graduate? A mortar board, yet another mason’s tool. Speaking of mason’s tools, almost all presiding officers and judges use a mason’s gavel.

Now-a-days we have diplomas to prove our educational achievements. In ancient times, a mason’s apron, made of lamb or sheepskin, was his diploma. Did you ever hear of a diploma called a “sheepskin”? A mason was free to travel, hence a Freemason, or “journeyman.” He could prove membership by certain secret signs, words, and modes of recognition, universally recognized by masons around the world, and still used today. These are the “secrets” you hear about. We are not a “secret society.” We are a society with secrets. Fifteen U.S. presidents have been Masons.

Masonry takes good men and makes them better. We practice self-control, act ethically, practice charity, speak the truth, and help each other and ourselves to improve. We practice age-old ceremonies-the same ceremonies experienced by George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, Clark Gable, John Wayne, and many, many, famous and historic men through the ages.

As a Mason, your reputation and conduct will reflect upon the entire fraternity. If you would like to join like-thinking men of good character to improve yourself, all you have to do is ask.

Vocabulary to Properly Explain to Police Why Your Car Went Missing—-PSA

How to properly use the right vocabulary to tell the police what happened when your car is gone !!!

PSA:

If you leave your keys in your car and someone takes it, your car was stolen and you are a victim of a VEHICLE THEFT.

If you are threatened or physically hurt while your car is taken from you, you are victim of a VEHICULAR HIJACKING.

Someone taking your parked car that you were not in is not a carjacking.

Stallone, Goes And Gets It !!!

Back in the day, Stallone was a struggling actor in every definition. At some point, he got so broke that he stole his wife’s jewelry and sold it. Things got so bad that he even ended up homeless. Yes, he slept at the New York bus station for 3 days. Unable to pay rent or afford food. His lowest point came when he tried to sell his dog at the liquor store to any stranger. He didn’t have money to feed the dog anymore. He sold it at $25 only. He says he walked away crying.

Two weeks later, he saw a boxing match between Mohammed Ali and Chuck Wepner and that match gave him the inspiration to write the script for the famous movie, ROCKY. He wrote the script for 20 hours! He tried to sell it and got an offer for $125,000 for the script. But he had just ONE REQUEST. He wanted to STAR in the movie. He wanted to be the MAIN ACTOR, Rocky himself. But the studio said NO. They wanted a REAL STAR.

They said he “Looked funny and talked funny”. He left with his script. A few weeks later, the studio offered him $250,000 for the script. He refused. They even offered $350,000. He still refused. They wanted his movie, but NOT him. He said NO. He had to be IN THAT MOVIE.

After a while, the studio agreed, gave him $35,000 for the script and let him star in it! The rest is history! The movie won Best Picture, Best Directing and Best Film Editing at the prestigious Oscar Awards. He was even nominated for BEST ACTOR! The Movie ROCKY was even inducted into the American National Film Registry as one of the greatest movies ever!

NO ONE KNOWS WHAT YOU ARE CAPABLE OF EXCEPT YOURSELF! People will judge you by HOW you look. And by WHAT you have. But Fight on! Fight for Your place in history. Fight for your glory. NEVER EVER GIVE UP!

Even if it means selling all your clothes and sleeping with the dogs, IT’S OKAY! But AS LONG AS YOU ARE STILL ALIVE, Your STORY IS NOT OVER.

Keep Up the Fight. Keep your dreams and hope alive. Go get it !!!

Why Do Masons Wear an Apron ?

Why does Masons wear an Apron?

Dr Jose Rizal – a National Hero in the Philippines, who brought the Rights of Life, Liberty, and Pursuit of Happiness – a Freemason is shown below wearing an Apron.

All Masons wear an Apron.

Along, long time ago, the Masons that build the King Solomon Temple wore an apron when they were cutting stones in the quarry and during the building of King Solomon Temple in Jeruzalem, in order not to dirty their clothes.

Today, some workers copied this Good Practice and also during food preparation in the kitchen.

Inside the Lodges today, Masons wear an Apron as a Symbol of being a “Builder of a strong and true men of character and of nations!

Look back at the history, these are the countries that were liberated by the Freemasons:

  • America
  • France
  • the Philippines
  • all Latin Countries
  • all Westernized Nations that practices the Rights of Life, Liberty and Pursuit of Happiness

I was made a Mason in my heart, we are the oldest Fraternity in the whole World.
There more than 3-million of us in the whole wide world.

We are not:

  • a religion
  • a salvation group
  • a secret society
  • a world ruler
  • a devil worshipper, cross stamper, usurer and other.

We are:

  • a free born – no boundaries!
-a liberator for those that are enslaved.
  • a strong giver in charity
  • a helper to a Brother and Neighbor in need.

The basic Rights of Life, Liberty and Pursuit of Happiness is our guiding principles that were copied by all Westernized and liberated Countries.

The Apron represents that we are builders of men and country!

A Question, We Should All Consider is “When Should You Step Down Or Move On ?

The mainstream conversation about aging politicians remaining in office causes me to ponder why people retain leadership positions for too long. Be it politicians or CEOs of companies, what is the thought process of remaining for a considerable amount of longevity?

A Question, We Should All Consider is “When Should You Step Down Or Move On ?

I aim to understand and reconcile those reasons. I hypothesize that individuals lock up positions due to:

1. Ego

2. Identity

3. Selfish Benefits and Greedy Gains

4. Organizational Success

5. Denial of Physical or Cognitive Decline

The seductive whisper of ego often shackles individuals to their roles beyond their influential tenures. The ego manifests as a self-indulgent force, compelling leaders to cling to power due to an inflated sense of self-worth and an insatiable desire for recognition, respect, and control.

It blurs the boundary between confidence and arrogance, often leading them to believe that they are indispensable and that their prolonged stay is beneficial, if not crucial, for the organization or community. This overarching desire for self-validation and fear of losing status and influence can overshadow the intrinsic motivation to serve, eventually leading to impaired judgment, stagnation, and, in many instances, the deterioration of the entities they lead.

It is crucial to recognize the corrosive influence of ego to foster leadership that is dynamic, humble, and genuinely devoted to the collective good rather than trapped by self-serving motives.

Identity is closely related to ego. The psychological comfort and social validation derived from prestigious titles can create a fearful attachment to the position.

Many people struggle with leaving their position because their identity is tied to their job. The same can be said of any position. The reluctance to relinquish such roles, driven by an over-identification with them, impedes organizational evolution and stifles the emergence of new perspectives and innovative ideas.

The relentless pursuit of financial gain often forms the invisible chains that bind individuals to leadership positions long after their season of effective influence has waned. Many leaders stay in place because they must pay off their mortgage or their kids’ college tuition. We are all incentivized to make financial gains, and there is nothing wrong with having this motivation. However, it becomes detrimental to the organization when a leader is looming only for these reasons.

A logical reason to stay is because the organization is profitable or successful. This is tricky because it plays into the “if ain’t broke…” belief. However, the danger is a leader’s deep-rooted reliance that the organization’s success solely depends on their presence. I’ve also heard leaders say they want to stay because the job isn’t finished. In most cases, the job will never finish and is meant to evolve. This belief can create a reluctance to pass the torch, potentially stifling the innovative potential and adaptability of the entity.

It seems obvious, but declining health (physical and cognitive impairment) is a reason to exit your post. Age is the main dispute making headlines in the present day. I hope these individuals surround themselves with a team of truth-tellers who have their best interests in mind. More aptly stated, the best interest of the people they lead. Sadly, I have not seen that.

So how long is too long? I’m only of average intelligence, so I don’t know the answer.

I stayed in various roles such as a college vice president, Director of Public Safety, Head of a municipal law department for no more than 3 years in most instances, and I decided to leave each after a pretty intense soul-searching exercise with myself. I set my ego and identity aside. It was a financial risk because I was not yet eligible to collect my pension when I left. The organizations were healthy and thriving, as indicated by the selfless men and women employed, and community support. But I felt personally stagnant, and I knew that my internal strife would soon manifest and my people would suffer. I was scared to leave for all of the reasons I’ve cited that people stay too long. It turned out to be the right decision for me and each of my organizations. They needed new energy, and I needed to learn who I was able to pursue a new employment adventure, where I could explore new challenges for my entire adult life.

You may be doing a great job in your leadership role, but I implore you to hold up a mirror and determine if you’re past your expiration date — which has nothing to do with age. Are there junior leaders waiting in the wings who aren’t being provided an opportunity to lead because you are taking up a spot? If you’ve done your job well, you should be able to walk out of your organization knowing it’s in the capable hands of those you’ve developed to take your place. You should be kicking down doors for others to walk through.

A great leader knows when to leave because astute judgment and self-awareness are paramount to effective leadership. Recognizing when to step down or move on is often as crucial as knowing when to step up.
