In Illinois, you now pay 48.3 cents per gallon in Illinois taxes, in addition to local taxes and federal taxes on every gallon of gas.
History: In July 2019, Governor JB Pritzker and Illinois Democrats doubled the gasoline tax in Illinois. Each year, thereafter, taxes have increased automatically on July 1st.
Illinois now ranks #2 in the nation for gas taxes.
